About Me

My work explores the intersection of personal narrative, identity, and the pervasive influence of media and consumer culture. As an emerging mixed media artist from Appalachia, I draw deeply from the landscapes and isolation of my upbringing in North Carolina—a place of solitude that remains fulfilling. The mountains, forests, and the creatures of my region are central to my practice, offering a stark contrast to the media-saturated world that often defines identity. Influenced by pop culture and lowbrow art, my work blends bold, fantastical imagery with introspective themes. I focus on moments of vulnerability and self-reflection, transforming them into visual narratives that invite viewers to engage with their own emotional landscapes. I am particularly fascinated by the interplay between materialism and identity, examining how pop culture shapes perceptions of the self. Equally significant is my exploration of the cultural narratives imposed on marginalized regions like the South. Stereotypes—poverty, addiction, and a deep connection to the land—pervade our image. While some of these elements hold truth, they fail to capture the full complexity of life here. My work challenges these oversimplified depictions, navigating the tension between stereotype and reality, and between how we see ourselves and how we are perceived. Through layered textures, vivid colors, and unexpected juxtapositions, I invite the viewer to question the commodification of identity and the social constructs that shape us in a consumer-driven world.
